Rest in Peace, "Mörtti the Rat"

??th ?, 2004 E.V. - 18th May, 2006 E.V.

Farewell my hairy companion.. You were always the daredevil of your pack! Always gnawing on electrical cords and biting unsuspecting human-toes. Your brawery, wit and agility was simply unchallenged in the world of rats.

Yet, death comes even the to the greatest of Rats. Just a few days after your brother´s passing, you followed him peacefully into the Great Rat Beyond. You will be missed greatly by me, V. and your big brother, Mikki!

What's the average lifespan of a pet rat?

The average lifespan of a pet rat is around 2-3 years. Feral rats can live two times longer and are more resistant to diseases.

My remaining rat (of the pack), Mickey is around 2,5 years old. Although he doesn´t have any visible terminal illness, he has began to show signs of dementia. He sleeps away most of the day, and is oblivious to danger (heights, sudden noises etc.). His hind legs are also growing weak.. I.e. When he scratches himself, his leg doesn´t even touch his skin (thus it´s just a reflex). Funnily enough, he has developed a penchant for biting humans. Just yesterday he bit my companion´s butt, and obviously enjoyed himself!
